Inter-American Treaty

The Inter-American Convention on Letters Rogatory and Additional Protocol (IACAP) are international agreements designed to facilitate judicial assistance between countries. The IACAP provides a mechanism for service of documents by a foreign central authority. Many countries in South and Central America are members of the Inter-American Convention and Protocol.

LSP Legal can assist you with preparing the Request Letter for the judge to sign. The documents are then forwarded to the U.S. Central Authority and foreign courts for service. The entire process can take up to a year or more. Unlike the Hague Convention on Service, the IACAP does not offer a practical mechanism for the plaintiff to file for a default judgment after six months have passed since filing the IACAP request.
